Breakfast Calander

“Breakfast Calendar” depicts the reality behind the fancy titles used for each day’s item on the breakfast menu. There was never a breakfast menu. From ‘American Pancakes’ to ‘Savoury Croissants’, the menu is purely a reduction of available items already included in brunch special or ‘Full English’ No matter what the menu says, the core breakfast items will always be eggs, hash browns and beans. The idea that they are all different, but the same/ they are all the same, but different can be observed in this piece.

With the menu items printed on existing labels, hints of the beans logo and ridges markings can still be seen, depicting that despite the fancy items, it can not hide from its true identity, beans. The number and layout follow the calendar month of May, and the labels follow the printed menu, making this essentially a breakfast calendar. The printing gradually gets fainter and the wrapping gets more wrecked, again hinting that as time progresses, the repetitiveness has destroyed its uniqueness.

By only looking at one can it is not possible to see the repetition, but when they are all put together, the gnarly blobs of beans spanning across the tray show up. Just like one Full English Breakfast is tasteful, but when you need to have it every day for months and years, not so.
